Product Description
Four thousand years of craft. One breathtaking dress.
The Lal Bagh is an Ajrakh block-printed Modal tiered dress in deep madder red and indigo blue — covered from neckline to sweeping hem in the most intricate geometric and floral medallion motifs that Ajrakh has to offer. Allover. Unrelenting. Magnificent.
This is not a dress with an Ajrakh border or an Ajrakh panel. This is a dress where Ajrakh owns every single centimetre of fabric — starburst medallions, geometric lattice, paisley forms and concentric rings repeating across the entire tiered silhouette in the classic red-and-indigo palette that has defined this craft for millennia. At the gathered neckline, delicate embellishment catches the light — the one quiet detail on an otherwise gloriously busy canvas.
When the tiers move — and they move generously — it is like watching a manuscript come to life.
The Craft
Ajrakh is one of the world’s oldest surviving block-printing traditions, practised in Kutch, Gujarat and Sindh for over 4,000 years. Each print is built through multiple rounds of hand-stamping with carved wooden blocks — layer upon layer of resist paste, natural dye and precise registration that creates its characteristic depth, richness and complexity. The red comes from natural madder. The indigo from the plant. The white from resist. Every motif is a geometric act of devotion.
On a tiered, high-low silhouette in fluid Modal, this ancient craft feels completely and urgently contemporary.

Why You’ll Love It
✦ Allover Ajrakh — not a border, not a panel — every inch of this dress is block-printed by hand; it is one of the most craft-dense pieces in the Ek Dori collection
✦ The red-indigo palette — the classic Ajrakh colour combination is timeless, rich and deeply rooted in the craft’s natural dye heritage; it works as beautifully at a wedding as it does at a museum opening
✦ The tiered silhouette — volume, movement and a high-low hem that makes every step feel deliberate; this dress was built to be worn with confidence
✦ Allover print on a tiered dress — the geometric Ajrakh pattern shifts direction subtly at each tier seam, creating a visual rhythm that rewards every closer look
✦ Embellished neckline — one delicate detail on an otherwise pure craft canvas; considered, not overdone
✦ Free size — the gathered, tiered construction flatters every body type effortlessly
A Note on Handcrafted Imperfections
Ajrakh block printing is done entirely by hand — each wooden block stamped individually, each dye layer applied separately. Minor variations in print registration, slight colour depth differences and small block-alignment imperfections are the natural fingerprints of 4,000 years of craft. No two dresses will ever be exactly alike.
Colour variation of up to 10% may occur due to lighting and screen settings. All photographs are of the actual product.
